Pressure on State for land: Karim

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: The Central government is exerting pressure on the State to provide land free for their projects here, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said.

He was speaking after laying the foundations of a processing unit of the Kerala State Palm Products Development Workers’ Welfare Corporation (Kelpalm) at Alathur, near here, on Monday.

This attitude is putting the State in a difficult situation. The governments of other States in the country are not asked to provide land for Central projects.

This is discrimination against Kerala, he said.

The State government had acquired 400 acres of land for the proposed Aligarh Muslim University’s centre in the State, he added.

Global developments indicate that public sector institutions should be protected to save the country from economic crises.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s policy in this regard is proving right, Mr. Karim said.

The meeting was presided over by M. Chandran, MLA.
