Plea for medical college in Pathanamthitta

The proposed medical college under the Central University of Kerala (CUK) in the district should be set up at the 100 acres of land identified for the same in Pathanamthitta municipal limits, K.K. Nair, former MLA, has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Nair said 100 acres of land was earmarked in the municipal limits eight years ago for setting up a medical college as a joint venture of the Union government as well as the four south Indian States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnakata and Kerala. He said there was even a gazette notification regarding the land for the proposed medical college.

Mr. Nair said the matter should have been brought to the notice of the Union government by the people's representatives from the district.

Ironically, the proposal to set up a medical college at the land attached to the Kinfra Industrial Park at Elamannor near Adoor and the reported site inspection by a team headed by CUK Vice-Chancellor Jancy James was kept a secret for reasons best known to its `promoters,' he alleged.
