Plea against golf course dismissed

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition filed against the decision of Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) to construct a golf course on the land acquired for the airport.

The petition was dismissed by the Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice J. B. Koshy and Justice V. Giri. According to the petitioner, Kundelipadam Nellulpadaka Samithi, near Nedumbassery, the land acquired for the airport could not be utilised for other purposes.

Besides, the utilisation of the land for golf course would also affect the paddy field adjoining the acquired land. The petitioner sought to restrain the airport from going ahead with the construction of the golf course. The court said that it was for attracting the tourists that the golf course was being constructed. The court could not stop such projects.

Council retrained

Acting on another petition, the Bench restrained the Bar Council of Kerala from enforcing its decision to remove the name of Najmal Babu, the former assistant secretary of the former Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty from the roll.

The Bar Council had charged him with concealing the information regarding his employment when he submitted the application for enrolment.

The Bench ordered that it would be open to the council to issue a fresh show cause notice and pass order after giving him an opportunity to file his objections.
