Perinthalmanna to host film appreciation camp

World classics, short films and several documentaries will be screened



MALAPPURAM: The Valluvanad Film Society will organise a three-day film appreciation camp at Perinthalmanna from Friday. Filmmaker and actor Prakash Bare will inaugurate the camp – ‘Deep Focus 2010' – at Municipal Town Hall on Thursday afternoon.

The camp is being organised in association with the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy and Perinthalmanna Municipality.

The inaugural will be followed by the screening of ‘Divine Intervention,' a Palestine film directed by Elia Suleiman, and ‘Shayanam' by M.P. Sukumaran Nair.

The camp will begin on Friday morning. Fifty teachers, students, cultural and film society workers will attend the camp. Classes and discussions will be held on structure of movies, their political readings, audio-visual language, history, relation between cinema and its viewers, male perspective of films, documentary movement, and challenges faced by film societies.

Classes by experts

Film personalities and critics such as V.K. Joseph, G.R. Santhosh Kumar, G.P. Ramachandran, P.S. Sreekala, Reji M. Damodaran, Fr. Benny Benedict, Prem Chand, and Madhu Janardhanan will lead the classes.

Chalachithra Academy chairman K.R. Mohanan, script writer Deedi Damodaran, and filmmaker Priyanandanan will be chief guests at the face-to-face programmes to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Filmmaker P.T. Kunhumohammed will be the chief guest at the valedictory function to be held on Sunday evening.

World classics like Pather Panchali by Satyajit Ray; Bicycle Thief by Vittorio De Sica; Modern Times by Charles Chaplin, and Battleship

Potemkin by Sergei Eisenstein, and short movies like ‘A Short Film About Killing' by Krzysztof Kieslowski; ‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' by Robert Enrico; ‘Ghost' by Michael Jackson; and several other documentaries will be screened at the camp.
