Passengers stranded after flight develops glitch

As many as 72 passengers on an Air India flight to Mumbai, most of them scheduled to fly to Europe from there, were stranded at the Cochin International Airport here on Wednesday after the aircraft encountered a technical problem.

Airline officials said the flight AI 691, operating from the international terminal here, that had been scheduled to take off at 8.15 p.m. on Wednesday was cancelled following a technical problem.

However, the passengers were shifted to hotels only after a few hours as it took time for the authorities to verify the glitch and decide to ground the plane. On Thursday, 49 of the passengers were accommodated in a morning flight, IC182, to Mumbai, while a group of 12 persons was sent by a Jet Airways flight in the afternoon. The remaining 11 passengers chose to go by the same aircraft so as to avoid a transfer between the terminals on reaching Mumbai. The aircraft left here by 7 p.m. after the problem was fixed.
