PATHANAMTHITTA: Preparations are under way for the annual Maramon Convention and the Cherukolpuzha Hindu meet on the riverbed of Pampa. Both the Mar Thoma Syrian Christian Evangelistic Association (MTSCEA) and the Ayroor-Cherukolpuzha Hindumatha Maha Mandalam (ACHMM) have already launched the work on the thatched pandals for the two major religious congregations in the State.

One lakh people

Mar Thoma Metropolitan Joseph Mar Thoma, who is also the MTSCEA president, inaugurated the work on the convention pandal on the riverbed of Pampa at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, on Monday. The pandal has been designed to accommodate one lakh people, according to the organisers.

The week-long Maramon Convention, billed as Asia’s largest annual Christian congregation, will be held from February 10 to 17.

At Cherukolpuzha

The work on the pandal of Cherukolpuzha Hindu meet was launched by ACHMM president T.N. Upendranatha Kurup on the riverbed of Pampa at Cherukolpuzha the other day. The meet will be held from February 3 to 10. According to Mr. Kurup, the Mata Amritanandamayi Madhom general secretary Swami Poornamruthananda Puri will inaugurate the meet on February 3.

M.K. Ramachandran Nair, Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University, will preside over the inaugural function. The Ayyappa Bhakta Sammelan will be held on February 6.

Swami Abhayananda Theerthapada Maharaj will inaugurate the Sammelan and P.Parameswaran, Bharatiya Vichara Kendram director, will preside over the function.

District Collector Raju Narayanaswamy will inaugurate the youth meet on February 7. Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran will inaugurate the Chattambi Swami commemoration meet on February 8. Swami Rithambarananda, secretary of Sivagiri Madhom, will preside the meet and Swami Garudadhwajananda will deliver the benedictory speech.

Women’s meet

Aswathi Tirunaal Gowri Lakshmi Bhai of Kowdiyar Palace will inaugurate the women’s meet on February 9. T.K.A. Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, will inaugurate the valedictory meet on February 10. Former Chief Secretary R. Ramachandran Nair will be presented with the Vidyadhiraja Darasana Puraskar on the occasion.
