PRISM to give schools a new face

International standards in 3 schools

Minister for Education M.A. Baby will inaugurate the PRISM (Promoting regional schools to international standard through multiple interventions) project at Government Girls Vocational Higher Secondary School at Nadakkavu here on Thursday.

A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, told mediapersons here on Wednesday that a state-of-the-art telescope will also be handed over to the school on the occasion.

Three government schools in the district will be raised to international standards under PRISM. HMHSSS Azhchavattam and GHSS Karapparambu are the other schools.

The project, being implemented with the help of the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode is receiving help from all quarters. The school buildings were being modified and compound walls and gates are erected with technical help form the National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C). Infosys had provided 150 computers.

The Indian Space Research Organisation is assisting in setting up science laboratories. The Kozhikode planetarium is setting up science parks in schools. Playgrounds are being upgraded with the help of the Sports Council.

The government had allotted Rs.20 lakh to set up libraries and another Rs.20 lakh facility addition. Over Rs.12 lakh will be provided to build compound walls and erect gates, he said.

All classrooms will get multimedia support in a phased manner.

A multipurpose hall which can be used as a dining space, indoor court, auditorium or exhibition hall, will be built in the three schools. Students will be equipped to take competitive examinations. English communication skill development classes will be organised at the high school level, he added.
