Oil Conservation Fortnight planned

Special Correspondent

Kochi: Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOC) is conducting a number of activities in connection with the Oil Conservation Fortnight (OCF) to spread the message of oil and gas conservation amongst the public at large. The activities include free pollution check campaigns, study classes for the public for conservation awareness, quiz programmes, cycle rallies and a number of other programmes for industrial and domestic users of petroleum products. Oil conservation tips are being conveyed through distribution of pamphlets.

OCF is being celebrated all over the country from January 15 to 31 to spread the awareness of urgency of conserving petroleum products. Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRS) is the nodal agency for coordinating the oil conservation efforts. The theme this year is ‘Save Fuel, Save Money’.

In Kerala, IndianOil has tied up with the voluntary environmental group Plan@Earth for organizing processions, street plays and road shows. Volunteers use face masks, face painting and placards to display the conservation messages. The innovative method attracted public attention and in a programme at Marine Drive, Kochi even the foreign tourists also joined the street plays.

To acquaint the children and make them aware about the efficient use of natural resources, IndianOil is conducting painting, cartooning and elocution competition for students from class VIII to XII at Rotary Club Hall, Panampilly Nagar, Kochi on January 30 at 10 a.m. This will be followed with the Oil Conservation Pledge to volunteering students and ‘nature club’ members.
