NCP to step up agitation

Special correspondent

Kozhikode: State president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) K. Muraleedharan said on Saturday that the appointment of P.J. Thomas as Chief Secretary and Raman Srivastava as Director General of Police (DGP) had tarnished the image of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

He was inaugurating a march taken out to the office of the Public Works Department (PWD) here in protest against the bad condition of roads. Mr. Muraleedharan said the officials had been targeted by Mr. Achuthanandan for criticism during his term as the Leader of the Opposition.

Their postings in key positions in his government reflected badly on Mr. Achuthanandan, he said.

Mr. Muraleedharan vowed to intensify agitations against the Left Democratic Front government. He said the road were in bad shape although the department was directly under the control of the Chief Minister.

Party leaders K. Praveen Kumar and Dinesh Perumanna spoke at the meeting.

A demonstration was also held in front of the PWD office.
