KOZHIKODE: A home stay facility supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Kerala, has come up at Koompara.

It was inaugurated on Saturday by K.C. Shashidhar, NABARD Chief General Manager in Kerala. The project is supported by the NABARD under its rural innovation funds and implemented by Sugandhini, an NGO of farmers of the region.

The project was an attempt to showcase the natural beauty of the Western Ghats as also the diversified farming systems of the area, Johnson Kulathinkel, chairman, Sugandhini, said.

Mr. Shashidhar said rural tourism had tremendous synergy with agriculture and should, therefore, be promoted in a big way as a supplementary source of income for the farmers.

He said the NABARD would support similar initiatives. It would also provide support for capacity building programmes in hospitality management for farmers who run home stays.
