KERALA

Monsoon round the corner

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday hinted at the possibility of the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala by May 24.

The IMD’s numerical weather prediction models indicate gradual increase in pressure gradient over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea causing strong cross equatorial flow of wind and an increase in rainfall activity over the south peninsula during the four-day period from Wednesday. The IMD said the conditions, as of Tuesday, were favourable for the advance of monsoon over South Andaman Sea and the adjoining south Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

The normal date of advance of monsoon over the Andaman Sea is May 20.
