Thrissur: Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has called for more schemes to promote khadi. He was addressing a meeting at Avinissery, near here, on Wednesday to inaugurate the birth centenary celebrations of freedom fighter V.R. Krishnan Ezhuthachan.
“Khadi deserves better promotion when the Congress rules the Centre. Subsidy for khadi is low. It should be increased,” he said.
He attributed the low poll percentage in the 15th Lok Sabha elections to the growing anarchy among the urban middle-class. Later, he presented the V.R. Krishnan Ezhuthachan Birth Centenary Award to JD(S) leader M.P. Veerendra Kumar.
District Congress Committee president C.N. Balakrishnan presided over the function.
