Maudany flays IUML stance

KOLLAM: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany has alleged that the Ayradan Mohammed row was engineered by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) with a view to promoting its vested interests.

He was addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.

Mr. Maudany said the IUML’s interests were centred on the coming Lok Sabha elections. The showdown was meant to “fool the masses,” he alleged. At the same time the comments made by Aryadan Shoukat against Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal need to be condemned.

He said that not only the Thiruvanathapuram Golf Club, but all “high society clubs” in the State should be taken over by the government.

The PDP leader also called for an early solution to the Chengara issue.

Though the PDP was not fully satisfied with the two-year performance of the Left Democratic Front government, his party would continue to render unconditional support to it.

The PDP was not a Muslim party but a political party for the cause of the downtrodden, he added.

PDP programmes

The Padasala-08 programme of the PDP would be held at Malappuram from August 4 to 6. Classes on contemporary issues and seminars would be part of the programme.

Under the Santhwanam-08 scheme of the party, free ambulance service would be operated at all Assembly constituencies.

Free meals would be served one day a week at all government hospitals. PDP leader Poonthura Siraj and district president of the party Mylakkad Shah were also present at the press conference.
