KOCHI: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has said that the State is struggling to maintain the world-class achievements it has accomplished in the health sector over the years.
“If the State failed to preserve those achievements, then it would be facing a very serious and precarious situation,” he said at the inaugural function of a hospital at Kakkanad near here on Saturday.
He said that safeguarding those achievements and making available modern medical facilities to the public should be the approach adopted in the State’s health sector. He said the State boasted doctors who were at par or even better than the doctors abroad. “World class medial treatment can be ensured in the State if the modern medical equipment and facilities are made available to these doctors,” he said.
Forest Minister Benoy Viswom, who presided over the function, said the State Government was considering ways to protect the State’s achievements in the health sector and face new challenges in the medical field by drafting in support from all sections.
He said the present Government was sensitive to the health predicaments of the poor and the hapless.
