League-NDF link exposed, says BJP

KOZHIKODE: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has accused the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) of reneging on its promise of not having any truck with the National Development Front (NDF).

In a statement here on Saturday, he said the IUML had broken its promise by allowing NDF leaders to lead the protest march to the office of the Public Service Commission on December 18.

“This is strange, as the protest march is being held under the banner of an action council of communities that enjoy reservation benefits. IUML leader and MLA Kutty Ahamedkutty is the chairman and IUML State president Panakkad Syed Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal patron of this action council,” Mr. Sreedharan Pillai said.

The BJP leader hailed as “patriotic” the decision of the Sunni faction led by Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musaliar and the two organisations representing the Mujahid community to distance themselves from the NDF.

The Minority Cell of Congress was behind the NDF-League alliance, he alleged.

“The people would like to know how the Congress and the IUML had decided to launch a joint agitation with the NDF. Panakad Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal, Ramesh Chennithala and Arayandan Mohammed owe an explanation to the people,” the BJP leader said.

The BJP leader accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) of fomenting “terrorist movements.” He said a statement made recently by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany claimed that the post of vice- chairman of the Wakf Board was given for his party by the LDF in the light of an understanding reached at political discussions.

The BJP leader alleged that it had become clear that both the UDF and the LDF were jeopardising the security of the country for a few votes. “Both the UDF and the LDF should break their links with the PDP and NDF in the larger interests of our country,” Mr. Sreedharan Pillai said.
