Labour dispute settled

Thiruvananthapuram: The labour problems hindering the reopening of the Punalur Paper Mill, which has been remaining closed for the last 21 years, have been settled. According to the settlement formula, Akula Board Limited of Andhra Pradesh, the new promoter, will pay all the benefits which are legally due to workers. This include salary arrears and other benefits, 14 per cent interest and gratuity with ten per cent interest. It is estimated to come to Rs.4.77 crore. In addition to this, each worker will be paid Rs.1,000 for every year the company has remained closed. — Special Correspondent
