Kollam port gets EDI approval

January 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 23, 2016 12:06 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kollam port has been accorded Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) approval for Customs clearance.

A press note quoting Fisheries Minister K. Babu said the approval was the result of two years of lobbying with the Union Finance and Customs departments. The EDI nod will make Customs clearance easier, facilitating smoother freight traffic to Kerala. It would enable more containers to be brought to the Kollam port. The Customs office at the Kollam port had been equipped with EDI terminal and other facilities, he added. — Special Correspondent
