Kavyotsavam to begin tomorrow

Fete in memory of poet Thirunellur

KOLLAM: The maiden three-day Thirunellur Kavyotsavam will commence at ATSK Gardens at Thevally on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake here from May 1.

At a press conference here on Friday, Thirunellur Smrithikendram chairman Thengamam Balakrishnan and general convener of the festival K. Bhaskaran said that former Member of Parliament P.A. Solomon would inaugurate the festival. It would be followed by three group songs to be rendered by 100 singers.

Seven exhibitions are also being organised in connection with the festival. A painting exhibition titled "Kayal Kazhcha" would be inaugurated by Kanai Kunhiraman. A show on Thirunellur Smrithi Rekhakal would be inaugurated by Kakkanadan. A photography show will be inaugurated by Pazhavila Rameshan; another show on implements employed by those who depended on Ashtamudi Lake as a means of livelihood would be inaugurated by P. Bhaskaran; Kalipanthal, a venue for children would be inaugurated by Chemannam Chacko; and Kayal Rachana, a venue for painting, would be inaugurated by Chirayinkeezhu Srikantan Nair.

Mr. Balakrishnan said that an ethnic food festival "Kaayal Ruchi" would also be organised.

At the inaugural function, three new books and the re-edition of three books by Thirunellur will be released. In the Kavya Sandhya to be held on the first two days, renowned poets and singers will recite the poems of Thirunellur.
