Seek special package for Kanjikode industrial belt

Authorities flayed for failure to provide amenities

Demand for special tourism package for Palakkad

PALAKKAD: The industrialists who participated in an interaction with District Collector K.S. Sreenivas here on Friday to draw up an industrial development plan for the district have demanded that the Government provide the infrastructure for the 750-acre industrial township set up at Kanjikode years ago.

The interaction was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Palakkad region.

The industrialists flayed the authorities for their failure in providing road, water and power supply.

They demanded that the Government evolve a special package for the Kanjikode area, considered the second biggest industrial belt in the State.

A special tourism package should be chalked out for Palakkad to help tap its vast tourism potential, they said. The road to the Malampuzha Garden and tourism centre was yet to be completed, they added.

The single window scheme introduced to provide various sanctions for setting up industries, including industrial zoning, in the belt was not being implemented. Many industries were awaiting power connection to begin production after completing the project construction, the industrialists said.

Mr. Sreenivas told the industrialists that he would look into their complaints and provide adequate infrastructure for the industries.

CII Palakkad zonal council chairman G. Krishnakumar, CII executive officer Saji Mathew, among others, spoke at the meeting.
