Improve activities under wetland conservation: development council

Thrissur: The District Development Council has urged the government to take steps to improve the activities under the National Wetland Conservation Programme. Addressing a meeting of the council on Saturday, A.C. Moideen, MLA, called for suspending an order by the Additional Director of the Soil Conservation Department to check watershed functions at Blangachal, Thotturuthy, Puthur and Wadakkanchery. He also said that officials should examine whether plots allotted in the Industrial Estate were properly used.

Uninterrupted power

Murali Perunelly, MLA, called for uninterrupted power supply to the agriculture sector. He also demanded provision of organic manure to farmers.

Drinking water

Thomas Unniyadan, MLA, and K.G. Sivanandan, representative of the Revenue Minister, said that steps should be taken to ensure proper drinking water supply during summer.

Mr. Sivanandan demanded to upgrade the Kodungallur taluk hospital to a general hospital.

B.D. Devassy, MLA, said that reported encroachment of land along the banks of the Chalakudy river should be stopped. Collector V.K. Baby directed the Irrigation Department to look into the issue.

A.K. Chandran, MLA, alleged that sand-mining was rampant in the Chalakudy river. Planning Officer P.P. Johny reviewed the functioning of various departments.
