Idol missing

KOTTAYAM: In a daring burglary, the idol of Sri Lakshmana at the Sri Rama Lakshmana Temple at Vennimala near Vellore was stolen on Monday night. Other ceremonial jewellery have also been looted.

Considered one of oldest among the Rama Lakshmana Temples in the country, the Vennimala temple traces its origin to the period of the last Cheraman Perumal who is believed to have constructed the original temple. The original idol of Lakshmana, the Anki and Prabha, all moulded in silver, and the four temple treasuries (bhandaram) are missing. The incident came to light when the security personnel opened the temple for Tuesday’s poojas.

Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
