Hundreds attend temple festival

PATHANAMTHITTA: Hundreds of devotees visited Nannoor Devi Temple at Vallamkulam, near Thiruvalla, on Saturday to take part in the Devi Mahatmya Sathram, said to be the first religious retreat of its kind to be held in the State.

The retreat began with ‘Gayatri homam’ followed by ‘Navagrahapuja’ and ‘Annapoorneswaripuja’ in the morning.

The Yajnacharya, Pallickal Sunil, delivered a discourse on ‘Maarkandeya Purana,’ later. Renowned Vedic scholar Gopalakrishna Vaidik delivered the keynote speech on ‘Karma and rebirth.’ A bhajan by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math Satsanga Samiti was held later in the night.

According to general convener M.R. Satheesh, over 5,000 people partook of the ‘annadaanam’ on Saturday. L. Gireeshkumar, director of Sreepuram Tantric Research Centre, Irinjalakkuda, will deliver the keynote address on ‘Devi concept’ on Sunday.
