Gang leader arrested

Thiruvananthapuram: The Cantonment police have arrested a 34-year-old gang leader in connection with several cases, including the recent attack on a retired Superintendent of Police.

F. Somanatha Pillai, Assistant Commissioner, Cantonment, identified the accused as `Kannanmoola' Rajesh, alias `Puthenpalam' Rajesh.

The police found out that the persons travelling in the vehicle which was used in the attack on the retired SP Bennet Mothawere involved in an attack on the driver of a private bus at Palayam on Wednesday night. The police arrested two other persons along with Rajesh. The Cantonment police had let off Rajesh after he was arrested on Friday. He was later re-arrested at the instance of a senior police officer. There would be an inquiry to find out why Rajesh was released, the official said.
