KOCHI: The Shadow Force of the city police arrested four persons for forging documents required for kidney transplantation on Monday. The arrest was made after a decoy operation done on the basis of information received some time ago.

The arrested are Aji K.U., 33, of Puthencruz; and his employees Joby, 26, of Sreemoolanagaram; Shino K. Raveendran, 24, of Thodupuzha; and Shamsudeen, 44, of Perumbavoor.

According to the police, the accused contacted patients with renal complaints and then got into touch with donors after advertising in the media. They forged documents required to be presented before the medical board for approving transaction of kidney and collected fees for the procedure.

Even though the team had been operating for the last six years, this was not detected so far as donor and recipients were genuine, said Manoj Abraham, City Police Commissioner. During initial investigations, no instances of cheating the donors were detected, he said.

Till date, the team had forged documents for 60-odd kidney transplants.
