KOLLAM: The Paravur police have arrested four persons on burglary charge. The police said they had committed over 30 burglaries in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

The arrested are Ambili Santosh, 42, from Pappanamcode in Thiruvananthapuram, Mariyadas, 22, from Marthandam in Kanyakumari district, Kalidasan Vinu, 40, and Vishakhan, 22, from Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram. They were arrested from the Paravur railway station premises.

Circle Inspector Abdul Rahim said Santosh, the gang leader, was released from prison four months ago after serving a sentence for a similar offence. From Kollam district alone they had allegedly stolen over 100 sovereigns of gold. Eighty sovereigns of stolen gold ornaments had been recovered from them, Mr. Rahim said. They confessed to involvement in a major break-in recently at Valakom. They were leading a luxurious life by selling the loot, he said. The four were produced before a magistrate court at Paravur and remanded in the district jail here.
