Forensic team visits blast spot at Patyam

KANNUR: A team of forensic officials visited the spot at Ottachimakkool at Patyam where Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA P. Jayarajan’s son was injured in an explosion, allegedly while handling a crude bomb.

The team from Regional Forensic Lab here visited the spot to collect evidence as part of the investigation into the case suo motu registered by the Kathirur police here.

The incident had occurred on the polling day on April 16 when the MLA’s son Ashish P. Raj and his friend T.P. Aghosh suffered serious injuries in an explosion. Both were admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode.

While the CPI(M) maintained that the explosion had occurred while the two were bursting crackers, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party said the explosion happened when they were carrying crude bombs.

The police suo motu had registered a case for negligent handling of explosive materials under the Explosives Act.
