Conference on graph theory

K. N. Panikkar, Vice-Chairman of the State Higher Education Council, will inaugurate the international conference on ‘Recent trends in graph theory and combinatorics' hosted by the Department of Mathematics at Cochin University of Science and Technology on Thursday.

The event will be held at IMA House, Kaloor. A. Vijayakumar, convener of the programme and Professor at the Department of Mathematics, said on Wednesday that the conference is being conducted in Kochi from August 12 to 15 as a satellite conference of the International Congress of Mathematics scheduled in Hyderabad from August 19 to 27.

The aim of the Kochi conference is to bring together from across the world those working in different areas of combinatorics and graph theory, be it theoretical or algorithmic, and provide a forum for collaborative research, he said. Laslo Lovasz, president of the International Mathematical Union, well-known for his work in combinatorics, is a plenary speaker at the conference which will be attended by 70 delegates from 25 countries, Dr. Vijayakumar said. This is the first time that the International Congress of Mathematicians is being held in India.
