Colourful start to district youth fete

The 51st Kasaragod District School Youth Festival got off to a colourful start at the Government Higher Secondary School at Balla East here. The four-day festival will see over 4,000 young talents contesting in around 250 events.

The event began with the Mono-Act competition in the morning.

The competitions are being held in 38 stages, erected in 14 venues around the sprawling school premises.

Around 16 off-stage competitions are also being held simultaneously.

The festival was inaugurated by Kanhangad MLA Pallipram Balan on Friday at a function presided over by Hassina Thajuddin, municipal chairperson, Kanhangad.

Asian Games Kabadi gold medallist Shermi Ulahannan, who hails from Konnakkad in the district, was honoured at the function.

Earlier in the day, a colourful procession of various arts and cultural performances was taken out to the main venue through main thoroughfare of the town.
