KOCHI: Two coin-vending machines have been commissioned at the Ernakulam Junction railway station.

The Ernakulam Area Manager of Railways George John inaugurated the machine installed by Federal Bank on Wednesday and the machine of the Catholic Syrian Bank, on Thursday. One inserting a 10-rupee currency note will get coins in the denomination of Rs.5, Rs.2 and Re.1.

Sensors have been attached to the machines to read the Rs.10 notes. The machines have been installed near the ticket counters.

“This is a joint venture between the Reserve Bank of India and the Railways. The RBI allots the facility to different banks,” Mr. John said. Besides Ernakulam, machine has been installed at Thrissur also and will be extended to other stations in the State soon. Chairman and CEO of Catholic Syrian Bank R.
