Closure of canteens puts patients in spot

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Both the canteens at the Co-operative Medical College at Kalamassery closed for Onam on Tuesday, leaving the patients, bystanders and the staff at the college hospital to devise alternative arrangement to have their lunch and dinner.

The arrangement reached by both the canteens with the hospital management was to work alternately. However, the eatery run by Triveni (Consumerfed) closed by 12 noon, without any prior information after serving lunch for the few who turned up before noon.

The hospital authorities have since arranged for the Kudumbasree canteen to function on Wednesday and Thursday. It had closed on Tuesday as Triveni was expected to function fully on the day. As most of the staff, patients and bystanders reaching the hospital depend on these canteens, quite a few who reached the Triveni canteen after noon had to fend for themselves.

The principal said that the college hospital has decided to make an alternative arrangement till Triveni opens after two days.
