China’s help sought on hydel projects

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan has sought China’s help for increasing Kerala’s installed capacity from small hydel projects by 500 MW within 10 years. The Minister, speaking at the Third Hydropower for Today conference being held in China said that Kerala had accepted China as a model in the field of small hydel projects. He added that the State could benefit from Chinas’s expertise. An MoU was signed in 1997 for setting up 18 small hydel projects with China’s help. Four were commissioned and talks would be held for the implementation of the remaining 14, he added—Special Correspondent
