Cashew Board may be set up outside Kerala

KOCHI: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Power Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said the proposed cashew board could be set up preferably outside Kerala.

He was talking to reporters after inaugurating the tea e-auction here on Saturday.

A study by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade had recommended setting up of a promotional body for cashew.

Half-a-million tonnes of raw cashew were being produced in India.

The country was the largest importer and exporter of cashew as well as the second largest consumer of the commodity. But production was declining and there was a need for an integrated body to promote it.
