Call to reduce load on principals

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Higher Secondary School Principals’ Association has called upon Education Minister M.A. Baby to fix a six-hour teaching duty schedule for principals of higher secondary schools as they are burdened with administrative work.

Considering the workload and educational qualifications, principals should be given pay equivalent to that of college professor/joint secretary, association office-bearers said at a press conference here on Monday.

Not recognised

The posts of principals as full-time academic and administrative heads of higher secondary institutions were yet to be recognised, they said.

They had to find time for extra curricular and sports activities of schools.

The government is yet to appoint clerks, peons or full-time staff for such work in higher secondary schools. The principals are left with handling teaching, admissions, conduct of public examinations, taking care of PF records etc, they said.

The government had not addressed he various service-related grievances of the association despite several requests, they said.

The association will stage a day-long fast in front of the Secretariat on January 28.
