CPI(M) worker killed in blast

KANNUR: A Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker was killed and three others injured in an explosion of country-made bomb at Kolari, near Mattannur, here on Sunday. The police identified the deceased as Shajil, 27, of Moozhikkara, near Mahe. The police said that the incident occurred in a cashew garden at Kolari at around 3.30 p.m. The injured are Prabeesh, Dileep and Rajeesh, all aged 27, hailing from Kolari.

According to the police, the injured told them that a group of assailants who came in a jeep threw a bomb at them. The police are investigating into the actual cause of the explosion. The police said that Shajil’s left hand and right palm were nearly severed in the blast. Prabeesh’s right palm was badly damaged. Shajil died in a private hospital in Kozhikode. Prabeesh was rushed to a hospital in Kozhikode. Dileep and Rajeesh were admitted to a hospital in Thalassery.
