Cochin University of Science and Technology has invited applications for a vacancy of lecturer at its Centre for Excellence in Lasers and Optoelectronic Sciences (CELOS) on contract basis. An official release said that candidates having M. Sc and National Eligibility Test qualification will get Rs.18,000 while those with M. Phil./M. Tech. will get Rs.19,000. For candidates having Ph.D., the salary being offered is Rs.20,000.

Vacancies for M. Phil. course: There are six vacancies in the M. Phil Marine Chemistry programme being offered by the Department of Chemical Oceanography at Cochin University of Science and Technology. Postgraduates in Chemistry/Hydro Chemistry with 50 per cent marks can apply. The application fee for candidates applying in the general category is Rs.750 while it is Rs.350 for students belonging to SC/ST communities. Applicants should submit a demand draft favouring Registrar, Cusat payable at Ernakulam. Applications will be available directly or through post through the Head, Department of Chemical Oceanography, School of Marine Sciences, Cusat, on or before October 8. Those who have applied earlier need not apply. The last date for submitting the applications is October 12. General council election: Election to the general council of the Cochin University Union will be held on October 14. The notification for the election will be published on October 5. The constituency-wise electoral rolls were published on September 10. Nomination papers can be filed till 2 p.m. on October 8. The names of candidates will be published at 3.15 p.m. on October 9. The final list of candidates will be published at 3.30 p.m. Polling, if necessary, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 14.
