SDC meeting on February 27

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Development Council (SDC) will meet at Government Guest House at Thycaud here on February 27. Minister for Local Self-Government Institutions Paloli Mohammed Kutty said here on Saturday that the meeting would be chaired by the Chief Minister. All Ministers, Vice-Chairman of the Planning Board, chairmen of District Planning Committees (district panchayat presidents) and Mayors will participate. It will discuss the draft of the Eleventh Plan and the problems connected with decentralisation. Special Correspondent

Bishop installed

KOTTAYAM: K.G. Daniel was installed the third bishop of the East Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI) on Saturday. The installation ceremony was led by Bishop B.P. Sugandher, Moderator of the CSI at the diocesan headquarters at Melukavumattion, off Erattupetta. Deputy Moderator S. Vasantha- kumar, bishops from other dioceses of the CSI, representatives of sister churches and prominent persons participated.

Dharna planned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha will stage a dharna before the Secretariat on February 19 to protest against price rise.

Morcha State general secretary E. Sreeranjini told the media that dharnas would also be organised in the district centres on February 28. She said the the cut in allocation of grains for public distribution had led to the price rise.

SBT revises PLR

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has enhanced its benchmark prime lending rate (PLR) from 12 to 12.50 per cent with effect from February 15. The bank has also increased the interest on the 6 months to one-year term deposits by 25 basis points. Special Correspondent

Strike withdrawn

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Bank of Travancore Employees' Union has withdrawn the all-India strike called by it on March 30 and other protest measures planned by it to press for making appointments and implementing agreements. This follows talks with the management. Special Correspondent

`Raise funds from NRIs'

THRISSUR: Writer Sara Joseph has said that funds for urban development should be raised through contributions from non-resident Malayalis instead of ADB loans. Addressing an anti-ADB convention here on Saturday, Ms. Joseph criticised the CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan's reported remarks in support of ADB loans.
