Banks disburse Rs.27,724 crore to priority sector

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Commercial banks have disbursed Rs.27,724 crore to priority sector in the State as on March 31, 2007, exceeding the disbursement target for 2006-07 by 14.14 per cent, the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) has said.

Out of the total amount disbursed, Rs.11,906 crore was for agriculture, Rs.3,208 crore for small scale industries and Rs.12,610 crore for other priority sectors, the SLBC said in a press release issued after its quarterly meeting here on Friday.

The total deposits with the commercial banking system in the State as on March 31 this year came to Rs.91,697 crore, with the NRI accounts holding a sum of Rs.33,304 crore. The total advances came to Rs.64,273 crore. The credit-deposit ratio touched an all time high of 70.09 per cent at the end of 2006-07, the press release said.
