BEFI office-bearers elected in Palakkad

The district conference of the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) has demanded a common recruitment agency for bank employees and formation of National Rural Bank to expand the banking network in the rural areas.

In a resolution adopted at the meeting here on Thursday, the BEFI opposed the move to impose tax on profit of co-operative banks. The conference extended its support to the national strike called by Central trade unions on September 7. The conference elected T.R. Sivadas as president and G. Balasubramaniyam as secretary of the district unit. I.M. Statesman, T.M. Vijayakumar, P.V. Jaidev and C. Rajalakshmi were elected vice-presidents. T. Sivadasan, Kora P. Kurian, V. Sreeram and B. Suvarnakumar were elected as joint secretaries and A. Sreenivas as treasurer.
