Awards given away at NRI Global Meet

KOZHIKODE: P.A. Lalitha, a physician and author, and Krishna Ramiah, Circle Head of the Punjab National Bank, were honoured at the eighth NRI Global Meet held in Kozhikode on Thursday.

Dr. Lalitha was presented the Gemserve Award and Mr. Ramiah received the Sevan Bhooshan Award on behalf of his bank. The awards were presented by Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas at Alakapuri auditorium.

The meet was organised jointly by the Indo-Arab Confederation Council, the NRI Global Foundation and the Gulf Malayalee Welfare Centre. Confederation council chairman Attakoya Pallikandy appealed to the Minister to provide job quota for NRIs returning to the State.

Those forced to return home for various reasons were not getting sufficient support from the State government, he said.

Organising committee president KT Vasudevan, NRI Foundation chairman CM Mohammed and P.M.A. Salam, MLA and Arab Kerala Historic Research Foundation adviser John Ochanduruthu also spoke.
