Autorickshaw driver attacked

Kozhikode: An autorickshaw driver was attacked by a gang in the limits of the Kunnamangalam police station here on Wednesday night.

The police said that V. Vineesh, 22, was admitted with serious injuries to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place around 12.30 a.m.

A passenger who hired the autorickshaw from Thamarassery Chungam demanded that Vineesh proceed via Punoor.

He later demanded that the vehicle be stopped near the Panchavadi bridge.

As soon as he got down, a gang of more than five persons attacked him with weapons.

Vineesh was found in a pool of blood.

The police, who received information, took him to the hospital.

DYFI activist

He is an activist of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).

The autorickshaw drivers at Thamarassery Chungam observed a hartal to protest against the incident.
