THIRUVNANATHAPURAM: A comprehensive proposal for the development of the eastern zone of the city was presented by V.Sivankutty, MLA, at Vision 2030.

The Rs.35-crore proposal includes construction of roads, bridges, sewerage and water supply systems. Mr Sivankutty’s presentation pointed out the infrastructure deficiencies in the zone .

He said that despite the proximity to the city centre, the wards east of the Chala Bazaar were lagging in development. Of the 86 wards that constituted the capital city, 10 wards located around Attukal Bhagavathy Temple accommodated about 15 per cent of the city population, he said.

“The infrastructure deficiencies in the region have become acute, especially in the light of the growing prominence of the temple and increasing number of residential houses. It is imperative in this context to focus attention on the development of this area,” Mr Sivankutty said.

Some specific projects mentioned in the proposal are the construction of a bridge across the Killi river at Puthenkotta; approach road from the Attukal temple towards Karamana; widening of the approach road to the Maruthoorkadavu bridge and the road leading to the Manacaud market; and development of the Attakulangara junction.
