Arrested MLA admitted to hospital

Guntur: Telugu Desam Party legislator T.V. Rama Rao, arrested on charges of harassing girl students of a nursing institute being run by him in West Godavari district, was admitted to a hospital here after he complained of chest pain on Tuesday. He was later discharged.

Doctors attending on Rao said that he did not require further hospitalisation as his heart functioning was normal.

Taken to jail

The MLA was later taken to the Central Jail in Rajahmundhry as he was remanded to judicial custody till August 3 by a magistrate court at Eluru on Monday evening, police said. The legislator has been booked under relevant sections of IPC like punishment for wrongful restraint (Section 341), criminal intimidation (Section 506), assault or criminal force to a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty (Section 354) following allegations that he made attempts to outrage the modesty of some nursing students in the institute.

Mr. Rao was arrested on Monday at Kovvur in his native West Godavari district from his residence by a team of CB-CID personnel probing the case. — PTI
