Two schoolchildren drown

Thiruvananthapuram: Two schoolchildren drowned after they fell into a pool inside a stone quarry at PTP Nagar on Friday evening. The bodies were fished out from the water by Fire and Rescue Services personnel. The children were identified as Sharon Sebastian, 15, a Class X student of Vidyadhiraja Vidyamandir school, and Vinayan, 16, a Class X student of Abraham Memorial HSS, Thirumala. Sharon was the son of Sebastian of Valiyavila and Vinayan was the son of Mohanan of Ilipode, Thirumala. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Medical College Hospital. Staff Reporter

Army Chief to visit Sainik School

Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief of Army Staff General J.J. Singh will visit Sainik School, Kazhakuttam, at 10 a.m. on Saturday. He will lay a wreath at the War Memorial and garland the bust of the late Col. N. Jayachandran Nair, an alumnus of the school who had laid down his life while fighting insurgents in Nagaland. Col. Jayachandran had been conferred the Kirti Chakra and Ashok Chakra. General Singh will also interact with the staff and students at the school auditorium. Staff Reporter

St. Antony's feast celebrated

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: St. Antony's feast was celebrated at St. Thomas Church, Valiaveli, on Friday. Fr. Cleetus Gomez, vicar of the parish, hoisted the flag. This was followed by a holy mass lead by Fr. Davidson. Saturday will be observed as parish day. The highlight of the day will be a holy mass lead by M. Susaipakiam, Archbishop of the Latin Catholic Diocese. Staff Reporter
