Army recruitment rally begins at Pangode

As many as 530 of the 1,000 candidates have been selected for the entrance test

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 530 of the 1,000 candidates who reported for the open army recruitment rally that began on Sunday at the Army Parade Ground, Pangode, here have been selected for the common entrance test to be held on February 22, 2009.

A press note issued here said the initial documentation process and physical measurement procedures were conducted on Sunday. The physical fitness test would be conducted after the written examination.

Thus far, the physical fitness test used to be held in the first stage itself.

The change is only for recruitment to the technical category and the fitness test will be conducted as is done for selection to the clerk category, the press note said.

The rally is open for seven southern districts of Kerala — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam for the categories of Soldier Technical, Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical. Candidates must be aged between seventeen-and-a-half and 23 years.


Recruitment would also be held for ex-servicemen for re-enrolment; for this the age of the candidate should be below 45 years.

The general physical standard for height is 162 cm. (for Soldier Clerk and Storekeeper Technical) and 165 cm. for (Soldier Technical).

The chest should measure 77/82 cm and the weight should be 50 kg., the press note added.
