Appeal to resolve strike

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Cochin Refineries Workers’ Association has demanded that the ongoing hunger strike by the employees in the manufacturing section of the refineries should be resolved immediately.

The employees have been on a hunger strike since January 1 demanding that the 40 employees, who were withdrawn from the manufacturing section, should be reinstated in their posts.

A statement from the workers’ association said here that the management of BPCL-Kochi Refinery had unilaterally withdrawn the employees.

The manufacturing section operates key functions like distillation, cracking, stripping and purification.

The statement said the workers from the manufacturing section were withdrawn as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
