Apologise, IUML tells CPI(M)

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has demanded that the CPI(M) apologise to the people for its Ponnani experiment.

By joining hands with parties like the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ponnani, the CPI(M) had put on risk the peace and secularism of the land. The people rejected the CPI(M)’s experiment, and that party should apologise, P.K. Kunhalikutty, IUML State general secretary, said here on Saturday.

Mr. Kunhalikutty said the victory of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was testimony to the correct political stand followed by the IUML. The IUML victory in Ponnani and Malappuram was a warning that none should ever attempt to go the CPI(M) way, he said.

The people of Malappuram would never allow anyone to sow the seeds of communalism and extremism, he said. He said the election results proved once again that the existence of the IUML was essential for communal harmony in the country. He described the Left’s move in Ponnani against the IUML as political foolishness. The people rejected it totally, he said. The IUML leader said the Left’s relevance in national politics had taken a beating. Now the UPA government can rule without being pestered by the Left. Mr. Kunhalikutty said the election results shook the foundation of the CPI(M) in Kerala.
