The arrested, identified as Rajesh, 22, also known as Pallan Rajesh of Thiruvananthapuram, is the second accused in the case.

The Railway police had registered a case in connection with assault on Mahesh, also known as Manoj, of Nattakam, Kottayam, as he boarded Thiruvananthapuram- Guwahati Express from Aluva on August 27, 2006 to go to Thrissur.

Two persons forcibly held the victim and threw chilly powder on his face, while a third person stabbed him on the back. He was then pushed out of the train on to the platform.

This case was later handed over to the Crime Branch and the investigation led by Superintendent of Police P.H. Ashraf led to the arrest of Rajesh from the Ernakulam South railway station on Sunday.
