A cultural tribute to Murali

Actor Murali, who died a year ago, will be remembered in a three-day cultural event being organised jointly by the Kozhikode Corporation and the Bharath Murali Memorial Committee at the Tagore Centenary Hall here from Friday.

The event, titled ‘In Memory of a Holy Actor,' will feature a book release, music programme, film festival, drama, photo exhibition and seminars.

Release of the book, ‘Holy Actor,' which analyses the artistic life and the multifarious facets of the late actor's personality, will be the highlight of the event. The book, prepared by Bhanuprakash after spending nearly three years with the actor, comprises studies, memoirs and analytical pieces on the life and work of Murali by as many as 111 persons from different walks of life. Litterateur M.T. Vasudevan Nair will release the book by handing over a copy to film director Sathyan Anthikkad on Friday.

Short film

A short film, ‘Montage,' produced by Kerala State Chalachithra Academy on the actor, will also be screened at the function.

‘Sangeethanjali,' a music programme incorporating selected songs from films acted by Murali, will be another attraction of the day.

The film festival, to be inaugurated by director Hariharan at 10.30 a.m., will show ‘Panchagni,' ‘Neythukaran,' ‘Champakkulam Thachan,' ‘Kanakkinavu' and ‘Meenamasathile Sooryan.'

A seminar on ‘the present crisis in the Malayalam cinema' will be inaugurated by Kerala State Chalachithra Academy chairperson K.R. Mohanan. Directors Kamal, Priyanandanan and V.P. Madhavan Nair, among others, will talk on the occasion.

Another seminar, on ‘Murali: the person and the actor,' will see personalities such as T.A. Rasak and K.E.N. Kunhammed talking in Saturday. Malayalam play ‘Mrigasala,' Edward Albey's ‘Zoo Story' translated by Murali, will be staged on Sunday.
