2.6 lakh fingerlings released in Wayanad rivers

The Fisheries Department released 2.6 lakh fingerlings in three inland water bodies in the district on Friday.

The fingerlings of Katla and Rohu fish species were deposited in Anoth, Mananthavady and Areekkara rivers as part of the Open Water Ranching Scheme under the Matsya Samrudhi project of the Fisheries Department.

According to B.K. Sudheerkishan, Assistant Director, Fisheries Department ,Wayanad, the project aims at promoting responsible fisheries and sensitise the public to the significance of conserving inland water bodies.

The department had disbursed 22.22 lakh fingerlings of Katla and Rohu species to 4,250 fish farmers in the district under the Matsya Samrudhi project this year, he said.
