1.1 tonnes of sandalwood seized

The flying squad unit of the Forest Department seized smuggled sandalwood weighing 1,100 kg from sheds attached to two houses at Pullara, Valluvamburam, near Manjeri, on Friday. Flying squad divisional forest officer Dhanesh Kumar said the seizure was worth Rs. 1.1 crore.

House raided

The flying squad unit raided the house of Najmuddin, son of Punnakkod Veettil Mohammed, and made the seizure.

However, Mr. Najmuddin escaped arrest.

A case was registered against Mr. Najmuddin and his neighbour whose shed was also used for storing the contraband.
